As far as I'm aware not too many of the regular contributers to the community here on r/slitherio are using racist, bigoted, or otherwise vile names in game. If I found out I would probably ban them. It is a shame you have let these other negative people turn you off from such a fun and simple game as slither, although you aren't the first.

But it only partially worked - I had to restart my browser every time I died (which was, ya know, a LOT of times) true. The servers seem to lack stability as a whole. I will have 2 days of decent control and smooth game play, then 2 days of sluggish control, and laggy gameplay. Taking away the low graphics option has accentuated the difference between good days and bad days. Open a new one, move it to my smaller display (I have a huge one as the primary display). Close it, then re-open it so it never was on the primary display and is launched where the previous Chrome instance was (secondary display). Start slither. That slither instance then works 100% of the time, immediately. Collision detection has changed and seems wonky. Sometimes you can run intertwined with another snake without collision. Sometimes you run into someones tail way behind where it ends (so there is no tail). Input lag seems worse, as if they give input and server/client communication the very lowest priority.
