I'm like 98.56% sure that you're wrong about Cricut making huge profits on their machines. I'd wager that they actually have a pretty slim profit margin on their machines -- well, specifically their cutting machines, the additional products they've released [ easy press, bright pad, the light thing, etc ] are a different story entirely.
Reading this post and using my knowledge of doing desktop and technical support for multiple years in my career, I would suggest holding the power button in for 15 seconds until you get a red blinking light. This seems to be the hard reset of the mug press and you would start your registration process over just like it is a new machine.
