I bought a Sony five-band shortwave-receiver specifically for recording weird tuning-noise and radio-chatter. The circa-1981 Sony ICF-6700W has a digital frequency display and flywheel-weighted tuning-knob with excellent ballistics. It also has a headphone-out and a "record-out" (of unknown level).
