Honda recommends 8,000 miles on a change with natural oil. . . You guys that are changing every 2,000 miles to 5,000 miles should really consider having that used oil tested just once to see actually how well that oil is and how your engine is doing. The only problem I found was in the southern Calif. winters the engine would have a hard time coming up to operating temp. Do a search for oil changes which should net you a few threads on the subject. I use shell T rotella in my 1800, have used mobil 1 as well. Best of luck in your quest for the best oil for your bike.Also, A K&N filter is an oiled filter so maybe that's the type filter you have. In any case, the oil in there shouldn't be excessive. Drain Plugs. If you dont have the owners manual I just wanted to tell you that there is 2 drain plugs. One at the front of the motor and one towards the back. There is also crush washers on the drain plugs, make sure you put them back on or replace them every 2 or 3 oil changes.I have a 2004 VTX Classic. There are two oil drain plugs I know about. Look for the "answers to common questions" thread in the 1300 forum (also applies to 1800 most of it). I do think it's called gear oil. One bottle will last you life of bike. Same for a tube of moly paste. 2007 Honda VTX 1300R + Mods. Replace the drain plugs, making sure they have their respective crush washers. Torque both drain bolts to 22 foot-pounds. Step 7. Pour in 3.5 quarts of HP4 synthetic 10W40 engine oil. The VTX1800 takes 4 quarts of oil, so check the oil after you pour in the first 3.5 quarts to see if the engine will take the last half quart. Step 8. Fill with 1 gallon of fresh oil and new filter. Start bike and let run for a minute on the sidestand. Now, WITH THE BIKE ON ITS SIDESTAND, remove the dipstick, clean it and insert it back into the engine. Remove it and with a Sharpie Marker, mark the oil line on the stick.

Every once in a while he will cut open a few filters to see what is going on inside his engines, when he cut open a filter from his 48 stylemaster, the filter had fell apart. I think you will be fine with "mineral oil" vs. synthetic and others have said that the specific weight you have is okay (I know nothing about the weight issue).
