I just had to do this, and Silent Bay 9 was the only level I found where I could do it easily, though you only get two merges each time. I initially tried using Totem Grid to get chests from bushes, hoping to grind fungus logs into spooky trees, and then merge them, but it just takes forever. If you're far enough along on the world map Zeal land 8 (3 chalices) is great for that. That's where I do any fungus log quests. It has multiple high level mushrooms to harvest from.
