we used an inline air saw to cut through the rear speakers and inner pillar to install 6x9s in brand new extended cabs back in the early 90s at this car audio shop i worked in. we did literally hundreds with no spacers needed and the grilles can be duplicolored to match your trim so they dont stand out. far from ghetto when properly executed.

My brother put a 2000 Tahoe console in his 90 OBS. He just removed the front section though where it meets up with the dash.
