The only ways I know of are matches, lighters, and sturdy stick + notched plank. Without a saw i don't believe I can get planks, so that leaves hoping to find matches/lighters on zombie corpses. The name is so deceptive when "sawing log" is actually drilling plank and "drilling plank" makes the most useless item in the game, and half a second later all your logs have become completely useless.

I'm not 100% sure if this is a bug, but for me it's not possible to start a fire with a notched wooden plank and a sturdy stick. I keep both items in my inventory, but when i click on the fire, the option to light the fire only appears for the lighter and matches. Even if i equip the plank primarily and the stick secondarily or the other way around, the fire won't get started this way.I do planks on the outside and a metal sheet for the inside. That way if zombies do start smacking on windows it's on boards that are easily replaceable. Having to spend half a day playing with a campfire is bordering on unreal and is actively getting in the way of surviving. To give you the full picture. Currently you can use a knife or screwdriver to craft a notched plank out of logs, bypassing the need for a saw to make planks. It's moot, because you still need a saw to make a sturdy stick out of planks, but it seems inconsistent, because if I can make a notched plank out of logs, I should also be able to craft a sturdy stick out of logs.
