In Project Zomboid, you can attach a trailer by driving a vehicle close enough to it, then leaving the vehicle and holding the “V” button, and selecting the “Attach” option or the “Plus” symbol to attach it to your vehicle.

ADDED TRAILERS 1) If in debug use addVehicle("Base.Trailer") to spawn a trailer. 2) Park a vehicle with it's rear end near the front of the trailer. 3) Looking at either the vehicle or the trailer, use the vehicle radial menu and choose "Attach Trailer" (the plus-sign icon).
The recently added Mototrailer can be used to load motorcycles and ATVs into it, then you can tow them while in it and unload them when needed.
