You can build it all separately (ie: foundation->walls->roof->doors/stairs) or use the 'Room' button to create foundation, walls, and roof together. Roofs have weight, so you can't build a roof without a foundation.The bugs will follow the scent of the lure (s), get caught in bear traps while your colonists pick them off from outside the path. You can place double fence or more layers, but not more than your people can shoot. At least double so the bugs take longer to break through if you agro them more than the scent of the lure.I don't think metal has higher HPs for furniture, but if your furniture is getting attacked, you've already lost. I'm 90% sure it's just an aesthetic choice. So, go with wood or stone for functionality at first and then make it look nice with metal/brick/concrete when you have an abundance -- assuming that you care.

I would say manure is actually the main benefit. However, it's still not worth it at all. Fertilizing itself is a waste of time meaning the best use of manure is for fuel.
