Just make sure you are switching just XDm's in the same caliber. But you should be able to interchange the 9mm and .40S&W. One of the drawbacks to this gun is weight. The XD (m) is easily the heaviest of the compact polymer guns at an advertised 28 oz. I own a 3.8 compact 9mm, 4.5 .40, and 5.25 9mm. The slides interchange and shoot on all of them. I have a springer precision trigger in the 4.5 frame and since it was fitted to my 4.5 slide, it is not as good of a trigger with a different slide. That would be my only caution.The Elite Precision has a frame rail, and it will accept most gun-mounted lights—making it a great choice as a bedside table gun when things go bump in the night. This is the biggest pistol in a family of big guns. With its full-size frame, even the XD-M Elite 3.8 isn't small or easy to conceal.I have a Storm Lake drop in 9mm barrel for my xdm 40 4.5".
