351M crank pulley. I finally got it off!!! The damper is actually warped. That might be why I had to replace the mains. I was in the scrape yard looking for a damper and found a 400M from a 79 truck and bought it for $150. It actually runs. Thinking about rebuilding it and leaving the 351M in the truck alone.

well am reading the Ford high performance parts interchange bible, and the 351w & 400m main & rod sizes are for all intents & purposes the same size-both cr anks & rods are made outta the same materials and capable to 65-6800 rpm in std form. It is natural for a right handed person to crank to the right, therefore with a crank position in the front of the engine and the engine has a hole with a milled slot in the front, as was normal on most cars, the engine has to turn clockwise. I believe the 400 had a 12" clutch, 351 had a 11" clutch so the flywheels (as original) will have a different bolt pattern for the pressure plate...just so you are aware. I know a 460 can be built for alot of HP and torque but thats way up in the high fives to sixes in the RPM range.Doing a 408 conversion and need to know if I need a new crank. The "M" has a shorter stroke. I was told a while back that to use 400 pistons you have to use 400 rods because of the lengths between the 351M and 400 were different. But the same crank could be used as long as you change the pistons and rods.
