We have a 20kw Generac with automatic transfer switch that includes load shed connections. When a new Fujitsu a/c condenser was installed, the HVAC guy had trouble with the connection from the transfer switch and left it disconnected. I think he had an issue because Generac provides constant 24v EXCEPT when there's a generator load issue.
